Vande Enjoys His Years Playing At the ralph
Sunday, March 14 was the Gopher-Sioux game three in a best of three playoff series being hosted by the Sioux at Ralph Engelstad in Grand Forks. One of the key players was former Spud of 2005 Chris VandeVelde. Vande holds down the center position and is one of the catalysts for the Sioux offense. In the game Vande assisted on the third Sioux goal to make it 3-1 and was the main faceoff man for the Sioux consistently giving the Sioux the puck when they were in the Gopher zone. After the game Vande reminised on the great fun he has had playing at Ralph Engelstad and for the Fighting Sioux. "The crowd was fantastic and they always get us pumped up." The crowd (11,627) definitely kept the Sioux rolling as they beat the Gophers 4-1 to win the series and move on to play UMD Thursday in the WCHA Final Five. Vande went on to say, "it has been great to play here with the best Coaches and fans you could ask for...I have always desired to play Division 1 hockey and this is the best place I could imagine." Asked about next week Vande is excited about the opportunity to continue the playoff run and see how far they can go, he felt if they work hard and play Sioux hockey they could make a strong push deep into the playoffs.
