Chris VandeVelde Plays His Last Game At Engelstad - Sioux Defeat Gophers 4-1
The Gopher-Sioux rivalry is alive and well after a heated game 3 to decide their playoff series in Grand Forks Sunday night in front of a raucous full house. Spud Almuni Chris VandeVelde, class of 2005, was on center stage as the Sioux out played the Gophers throughout the game leading to a 4-1 victory as the Fighting Sioux move on to the Final Five Thursday to take on Minnesota Duluth at the Xcel Energy Center.

Rams Gain State Berth With 2-1 Win Over Spuds
Roseau jumped out quick with a goal at 1:07 into the first period by Travis Connell. Then grinded with Moorhead throughout the rest of the first period trading chances and keeping the Spuds off balance. The Rams outshot the Spuds 13-7 in the first as well as getting most of the good scoring opportunities. Moorhead came out with more zest in the second period but Roseau got the next goal by Cole Kostrzewski on a power play making it 2-0 Rams. Tyler Larson answered quickly as the Spuds scored on their own power play on a nice tic-tac-toe play from Terry Leabo to Brandon MacLeod to Larson in the slot for a one timer making it 2-1. But that was as close as the Spuds could get as Roseau battled with Moorhead limiting the Spud chances for the remainder of the game. Shots in the second period were 11-9 Spuds, but the third period was a closer checked game with few real scoring chances as each team had 8 shots. Totals shots on goal were 30 for Roseau and 26 for Moorhead and the early goal by the Rams proved to be the difference. The Spuds end their season 14-11-2 and Roseau improved to 22-5-1.

Moorhead played in Roseau Tuesday winning 6-2 and then defeating Benilde-SM 5-2 on the road Friday night before playing Centennial with less than 24 hours rest. The Cougars scored then on a short-handed goal by James Hughes making it 1-1 after one period. Centennial kept the momentum as they reeled off 3 more goals on the second period taking a 4-1 lead before Lucas Melquist scored on a assist from Bryant Christian making it 4-2, but that is as close as the Spuds would get. Centennial added two more goals in the third period. Moorhead did outshoot the Cougars 32-25 but gave up 3 short-handed goals on the night. The Spuds were 2 of 7 on the powerplay while Centennial was 1 of 2.

Fargo South Gets the Best Of Spuds 4-2
Both teams were looking for a win to rebound after some up and down play recently. South found a way to get that win and Moorhead's struggles continued. Scott Buchholz was solid in net for Fargo as he stopped 35 of 37 shots on net. The Bruins capitalized after a long shift in their own end as they made a rush and scored making it 1-0 South on a goal by Cooper Stellrecht at 6:01 in the second period. They added another goal from Tyler Sorenson making it 2-0. Moorhead battled getting a goal from Quin Buckellew at 12:35 in the 2nd period. Another Bruins tally at 14:15 by Peter Orson made it 3-1 after two periods. The Spuds got the game within 1 goal in the third period as Brandon MacLeod scored to make it 3-2 at with 7:06 to go. South added a empty net tally right at the end of the game on a neutral zone face off that rolled all the way into the Spud net. The Spuds fall to 4-4-2 and will next play Thief River Falls Thursday at 7:30pm at the Moorhead Sports Center.
