Moorhead falls 3-2 to grand rapids
Jake Uglem picked up his 6th goal of the season on assists from Logan Ness and Bryant Christian in the first period as Moorhead is tied 1-1 with Grand Rapids. At 12:03 in the 2nd period Nate Mondrie scored to give Grand Rapids the lead then Avery Peterson scored on a wraparound as the Thunderhawks went ahead 3-1. The Spuds scored to cut the lead to 3-2 at 1:41 in the 3rd as Jesse Doschadis notched his 9th goal of the season. But Moorhead could get no closer. The Spuds are 16-4 and Grand Rapids is 17-5 nw for season records.

Spuds Win 4-0 over centennial to complete road trip
Moorhead wrapped up their 2 game road trip to the Twin Cities with a game against Centennial Saturday. After a scoreless first period the Spuds put 4 goals in the net. Zach Quaife opened the scoring on assists from Bryant Christian and Simon Selberg.

Logan Ness then added a goal assisted by Eric Barker and Christian. Tony Uglem then scored on a nice cross ice pass that made it across the crease from Ben Welle.

Chance Bitzer made 26 saves in getting the shutout and the win in net. Moorhead improves to 16-3 on the season and will play Grand Rapids next Saturday in Grand Rapids at 7:30pm.

Moorhead defeats #6 Benilde-St Margarets 6-2
The Spuds returned the favor to BSM after suffering a Holiday Tournament loss to the Red Knights and beat them 6-2 on the BSM home ice. Moorhead had two goals from Logan Ness, one each from Tony, Nick, Jacob Uglem and Thomas Carey.
Moorhead will play Centennial today at 3:00pm at the Centennial Sports Arena.

Spuds defeat roseau in OT 3-2
Moorhead picked up its' 5th straight win Tuesday night at the Moorhead Sports Center defeating Roseau in overtime. The Spuds were buzzing in the first period and scored at 7:31 with Cody Rahman(4th goal) getting the goal on assists from Zach Quaife(8th assist) and Jesse Doschadis(6th assist). Although Moorhead was all over the ice and keeping play in the Rams end of the ice they only managed one goal.

The second period saw the game shift Roseau's way as the Rams picked up two goals and took the lead. Alex Halstensgard scored at 7:56 and Alex Ziegler scored a short handed goal at 11:43 making it 2-1 Roseau.

The Spuds answered and tied the game at 6:07 on a powerplay by Thomas Carey(5th goal) with assists to Eric Barker(4th assist) and Nicholas Uglem(12th assist).
Overtime was quick with Roseau getting two quick shots on Chance Bitzer one being a nicely played redirection tip that Bitzer fought off. Moorhead then made a rush up ice and Thomas Carey(15th assist) made a nice pass in traffic to Tony Uglem (17th goal) who snapped home a wrist shot past Jared Strand giving the Spuds the win 1:41 into overtime. Shots ended up 32 Spuds and 28 Rams.

Moorhead improved to 14-3 on the season and win play a rematch against Benilde-St Margaret's on Friday at 7:00pm in St Louis Park. Moorhead will stay in the Twin Cities and play Centennial at 3:00pm in the Centennial Sports Arena on Saturday.

#1 Hounds defeat spuds in physical battle 6-3
Moorhead hit the road Saturday morning for a game with Duluth East and it turned out to be a battle. #1 ranked Duluth East went after the Spuds outshooting them 35-8 through two periods and leading 4-0 on the scoreboard. The Spuds wouldn't give up although answering with two quick goals in the third period to cut the lead to 4-2. Logan Ness finished a beautiful tic-tac-toe 3-on-1 rush for Moorhead's first goal 9 seconds into the period, assist from Cody Rahman. Tony Uglem tapped in the Spuds second goal at 3:59 from Aaron Herdt and Nick Uglem.
Duluth East answered back with what would prove the biggest goal of the game at 6:07. Dominic Toninato scored with assists from Ryan Lundgren and Jake Randolph. Moorhead put one more in just 30 seconds later by Nick Uglem from Tony Uglem. But 5-3 would be as close as it would get. The Hounds added one more late in the game by Lundgren to fisnish out the scoring at 6-3.
Moorhead falls to 9-3 on the season and will play Brainerd at home in a Section 8AA game Tuesday night at 7:30pm. Duluth East improved to 13-0 on the season, they will play Anoka on Tuesday at 7:00pm.

Spuds Fall against #3 Minnetonka 5-3
#2 Minnetonka comes to town on friday
The Spuds will have a challenging weekend starting Friday night when they will play #2 ranked Minnetonka at the Moorhead Sports Center and Saturday they will travel to play #1 ranked Duluth East.
Minnetonka is 11-1 with their only loss coming to Duluth East 6-2 in their Holiday Tournament. Lead by Head Coach Brian Urick in his 5th season the Skippers are 88-22-4 over that stretch. Here are some stats on the Skippers:

Spuds Rebound to capture 3rd place over wayzata
Moorhead opened the scoring on a goal by Nicholas Uglem assisted by Tony Uglem and Thomas Carey at 10:11 of the 1st period. The Trojans answered quickly with their own goal 1:31 later by Kenzie Vold tying the game at 1-1 after the first period.
Jacob Uglem scored the eventual game winner at 9:22 on a powerplay in the second period. Wayzata outshot the Spuds 27-12 in the 2nd and 3rd periods but Chance Bitzer was solid in net to get the win stopping 38 of 39 shots.

Moorhead suffers first loss to benilde-St Margarets 5-3
The Spuds fell behind 2-0 to start the game and it proved to much to overcome for the second night. Last night the Spuds overcame a 3-0 deficit to Eden Prairie. Tonight the Spuds were down 2-0 and Aaron Herdt helped rally Moorhead back to a 2-2 tie with two goals. BSM added another goal early in the third and the Spuds answered with just over 5 minutes to go in the game on a goal by Ben Welle.
BSM got the game winner from Jake O'Borsky with 1:18 left in the third period. The Spuds pulled goalie Chance Bitzer and BSM scored an empty net goal by Grant Besse with 1:00 left to seal the win.
Spuds Rally from 3 goals behind to win in 2OT
Nick Uglem came up big with two goals to tie the game 4-4 early in the third period and then brother Tony Uglem helped the Spuds win the game with 2 seconds left in double overtime as Moorhead defeated #6 ranked Eden Prairie 5-4 in 2OT's.

Moorhead opens holiday tournament against #6 ranked eden prairie december 28 @ 5:30 PM
The Spuds will find out where they stand with Minnesota's elite teams over the next couple weeks as Moorhead begins a stretch against some highly ranked teams. Wednesday Moorhead starts with 5-1-1 Eden Prairie. The Eagles only loss was to Edina 4-1, their wins came against Bloomington Jefferson, Eagan, Andover, Grand Rapids and Burnsville with a tie against Elk River.

Sophomore Aaron Herdt picked a great time to score his first goal as a varsity hockey player. Just 19 seconds into overtime Herdt got a pass from Jesse Doschadis and broke through a double team in the slot then proceeded to shelf a backhand over Bemidji goalie Ben Schram.

Moorhead wins opener 4-1 over fargo south
iSpuds Open Tonight Against Rival Fargo South
Moorhead opens the 2011-2012 season tonight at 7:30 PM - Moorhead Sports Center against cross river rival Fargo South. The Spuds were 18-9-2 last year and are returning this year with 12 seniors.
The 2010 matchup with South at the Scheel's Arena ended 3-0 Spuds. Eric Brenk who has now left to play with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL had 2 goals and Logan Ness had a goal in last years game. Chance Bitzer made 16 saves in getting the shutout.
Mark Cullen Plays last night with florida panthers
Last night former Spud Hockey player Mark Cullen went back on the ice to play in the NHL with the Florida Panthers, his first time back since November 2006 when he played with the Philadelphia Flyers for 12 games in the 2006-2007 season and Chicago Blackhawks for 19 games in the 2005-2006 season. Cullen has scored 16 points - 7 goals, 9 assists in 32 NHL games.
