Fergus Falls Defeats Moorhead Blues For State Berth

The Fergus Falls American Legion Team jumped out quick and never looked back in the title game against the Moorhead Blues Sunday in Perham. After falling behind 2-0 after one inning Fergus Falls scored 6 runs in the 2nd and 7 more runs in the 3rd and took a commanding 13-3 lead after 3 innings. The Blues tried to chip away at the lead with 2 runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th but could get no closer than an 8 run deficit. Fergus Falls sealed the win with 4 runs in the 8th inning winning by the 10-run rule. Highlights for the Blues were homeruns by John Cahill, his 15th of the season (a new Blues record) and two homeruns by Joe Pieterick. Moorhead finishes the year 22-17.

Moorhead Blues Turn On The Offense At District Tourney

After falling Friday to Fergus Falls in a pitchers duel 2-1. The Moorhead Blues rebounded with plenty of offense fighting through the losers bracket at the MN American Legion District 9 Tournament in Perham. The Blues took on Detroit Lakes at 4:00pm and came out with a 15-6 victory behind 4 homeruns. Lucas Henry, Cole Honl and Scott Petry had back-to-back-to-back homers. Petry's was a inside the park homer. Braden Rahman had the other homer which was a grand slam (Rahman has had two grand slams in 2 games) capping a big game for him with 7 RBI's.

The second game had the Blues took on Perham with the winner playing Fergus Falls for the right to go to the Minnesota State Tournament. The Blues went on to win 18-0 in 7 innings behind another grand slam by John Cahill, his 14th homer of the season.

Moorhead will now face Fergus Falls at 1:00 p.m. in Perham. Should the Blues win there will be one more game at 4:00 p.m.

Moorhead Gets win to Over detroit Lakes

John Cahill kept his hot hitting going by ripping two more home runs Thursday against Detroit Lakes in a 14-4 Moorhead win . Cahill now has 11 home runs on the season. Also adding home runs were Braden Rahman and Lucas Henry. The Blues are now 14-14 on the season and will start the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival Tourney on Friday with games against Brandon, Manitoba and Rosetown , MN.

Fargo Holds off Blues

 

Blues Sweep Detroit Lakes

The Moorhead Blues rebounded from being swept against Fergus Falls by taking two games from Detroit Lakes Monday night July 12 at Matson Field. Moorhead won the first game with a 8 run 5th inning to win 11-1 by the 10 run rule. The second game proved much the same as the Blues scored 12 runs over innings 4 through 6 to win 14-4. Highlights for the double header were John Cahill and Dylan Deavy homering in the first game. In the second game, Braden Rahman homered and had 5 RBI's, while Lucas Henry had a homer and 3 RBIs. The Blues are now 13-13 on the season and will next take on Fargo at Jack Williams Stadium Wednesday, July 14 @ 7:00 p.m.

Moorhead Drops Two Against Fergus Falls

Fergus Falls rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the second game of a double header at Matson Field in Moorhead scoring the tying run in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Fergus Falls then scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning to seal the sweep over the Blues. Moorhead falls to 11-13 on the season and will look to avenge the losses with a rematch in Fergus Falls on July 11 starting at 5:30 p.m.

Blues Take 2 Out of 3 On Alexandria Trip

Aaron Ostlund delivered a big two-out double in the top of the seventh inning that scored Tyson Schoenborn giving the Moorhead Blues the go-ahead run in a 6-5 win over Hopkins on Saturday July 3rd. John Cahill went 2-for-4 with a double in the Blues win over Hopkins.

Kyle Kramer was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Lucas Henry and Scott Petry each went 2-for-3 for the Blues. The Blues are now 9-10 on the season and will take on Perham in a double header July 6 in Perham.

Moorhead Blues Rally To Win Over Fargo 9-8

The Blues came back from a 7-3 deficit with a grand slam from Joe Pieterick in the top of the 7th inning to make it 7-7. Then Moorhead rallied for two more runs in the top of the 8th inning on RBI singles from Kyle Kraemer and Braden Rahman. Fargo managed one run in the bottoom of the 9th but Scott Petry was able to close out the game and pick up the win. The Blues improved to 7-9 on the season and will travel to Alexandria on July 2.

Jeff Bergman Who Passed Away June 27

8Before the Blues vs. Fargo Game June 29 a moment of silence for former Blues player Jeff Bergman who passed away June 27 at age 39. Jeff played for the Blues in 1988-1989 and was part of the team that won the Minnesota State Tournament, the Central Plains Regional and finished 3rd in the World Series.

Blues Wrap Up FM Invitational Tournament With Win

The Blues finished up their games in the FM Invite with a 16-4 win over Manitoba Selects. Lucas Henry homered twice and John Cahill was 3-for-3 from the plate. Kyle Kraemer chipped in a homerun. Moorhead finished the tournament 2-3. The Blues travel to take on Fargo at 7:00 pm for a single game Monday, June 29. at Jack Williams Stadium.

Moorhead Blues Help Out With Wadena Tornado Cleanup

The Blues volunteered to help out some of the people affected by the recent tornado in Wadena, Minnesota. On June 21 the Blues spent the day in the Wadena area cleaning up debris and sweeping fields looking for keepsakes. After a long day helping out everyone had dinner at a local resturant where they met local people who shared first hand accounts of their experiences and tears were shed remembering the moments in the storm and damage caused. RR Diamond Classic: Blues Win Two In Final Day

The Moorhead Blues finished strong in the Red River Diamond Classic winning games against Midway-Minto 9-0 and then defeating Bismarck 3-2. The Blues finish the tournament with a 4-1 record and now have a 4-4 overall record. Moorhead will travel to Detroit Lakes for a double header on June 23.

RR Diamond Classic: Blues Get First Win Of 2010, Defeat Morris 17-7

The Blues rose to the moment and exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to break a 7-7 tie and defeat Morris 17-7. The highlight was 3 back to back homers by the Blues starting with John Cahill, then Cole Honl and the third by Lucas Henry. The Blues are now 1-3 on the season and will take on DGF at 12:30 and Blue Springs, MO at 5:30. Blue Springs is the host city for the 2010 American Legion World Series.

Blues Fall To Fargo 10-5

The Moorhead Blues made it a tough night on themselves Wednesday against the Fargo Legion committing eight errors. Fargo seized the opportunity and capitalized on those errors and put up ten runs and sunk the Blues in the first matchup of the 2010 season between the two Legion rivals.

Perham Takes Two From Blues In Opener At Matson Field

In the first game of the double header the Perham Buzz came from a 1-0 deficit to get a 2-1 victory. Lucas Henry went the distance for the Blues on the mound. Game two saw the Blues enter the seventh up 2-1 but could not hold off the Buzz as they got one run on reliver Scott Petry. In the extra inning Perham was able to load the bases and execute the perfect squeeze bunt play getting a run and also a second run as the runner on second never stopped running and scored as pitcher Casey Smith fired the bunt down to first for the out. Perham held a 5-2 lead as the Blues came back to the plate. The Blues managed to get 2 runners on before Braden Rahman delivered a 2 run double and representing the tying run at second base. Cole Honl came to the plate but struck out to end the rally giving Perham the sweep.

June 15 at 5:00 pm the Blues open the season against Perham in a double header at Matson Field. Also, the Moorhead 8-10 year old youth players are offered a free baseball clinic between games. The youth players and coaches get free admission to the game.
